Community and Environment

Community

Hall Veterinary Surgery promotes individual as well as corporate social responsibility. This is demonstrated by the ongoing support of organisations including:

  • RSPCA – supporting Million Paws Walk with our HallStars team as well as raising funds on cupcake day.
  • Raising money of the Leukaemia Foundation; National Breast Cancer Foundation; WIRES; Prostate Cancer and Male Depression were supported by Mos for Movember,
  • AMRRIC Animal Management in Rural and Remote Indigenous amrricCommunities (AMRRIC) runs programs to improve the health of dogs and their owners in many indigenous communities throughout Australia. Dr’s Helen and Kate and former nurse Geraldine have participated in these activities – volunteering their time to help with desexing and worming programs in many communities over many years.

… and Environment

  • Water consumption

Washing drapes, towels, gowns, scrub tops etc is a constant activity in a vet practice, so we’ve purchased a commercial front-loading washer to reduce our water consumption. At 50% less water, we save about 2000 litres per week.
We have installed three low profile water tanks which we are connected  to ~250 square metres of roof.  A fall of 30mm rain half fills our 15000 litre capacity and enables us to keep our gardens watered.
  • Electricity consumptionWe purchase the  ACTEW’s Greenchoice Electricity, sourcing a guaranteed amount of power from renewable means. This keeps ~five cars’ worth of greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere. We’ve converted our lighting to LED, that will half our ongoing lighting costs. By better controlling our fresh air input in winter, we have cut our winter electricity usage dramatically..
  • Recycling
Using the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle mantra where possible we buy in larger quantities to reduce packaging. We recycle paper, cardboard and cans/bottles.
