Gemma Fiddian - Trainee Vet Nurse
I’m a Canberra girl who grew up on the outskirts of Hall, and I’ve always felt most at home in a rural environment, surrounded by animals. My family have had pet cats since I was four, chickens since I was 7, and dogs from about age 9. Along the way we’ve also picked up a rabbit, a gorgeous and beloved rat and some axolotls that were in need of re-homing. I’ve also managed to develop a healthy obsession with native reptiles, marsupials and small mammals.
Currently my partner and I care for our little girls, Molly the Abyssinian guinea pig and Chet the Kelpie cross. We also share our home with 4 chooks, 3 neurotic tabby cats, a not-very-bright Smooth Collie, and a Labrador cross, all belonging to my parents, and various brown snakes, eastern dragons, skinks, geckos, echidnas and possums which reside on or near our suburban property.
Like many of the team here at Hall Vet Surgery I enjoy writing for pleasure as well as education, and I’ve had a few pieces of fiction published locally. In what spare time I have I try to get out with Chet as much as possible, and I love riding horses (when my friends invite me over!). I spend a lot of time on my computer, and am a bit of a video game nerd. I adore all animals and value the important role they play in the family unit, as well as in the environment at large. I’m always ready for a laugh, but I take my work seriously and am looking forward to commencing my vet nursing studies in 2010, once I’ve obtained my degree.
After spending the past few years studying science and literature at university and working with children, I’ve finally found the perfect vocation in a beautiful setting at Hall, and am hoping to stay here as a member of the nursing team for a very long time.
