Witness Test Kits These are in house test kits which can give a diagnosis of a specific disease within 10 minutes. They allow us to test for canine parvovirus, heartworm or feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV).
Parvovirus test
Rapid detection of parvovirus in suspect cases helps us quickly isolate puppies with this very contagious and potentially fatal disease and start intensive fluid therapy. We can disinfect appropriately and advise the owner on actions to contain the spread of this terrible disease.
Heartworm test
Whilst we are fortunate in Canberra to experience a low incidence of this disease, we still see occasional severe cases in dogs that have never been out of the area. Therefore we offer heartworm prevention to owners of all puppies and young dogs. Dogs over 6 months require testing for heartworm before starting prevention and the Witness heartworm test gives us an answer in 10 minutes.
FIV
Feline immunodeficiency virus has a significant prevalence in outdoor cats in the Canberra area. It is transmitted by fight wounds and infected cats succumb to a variety of illnesses due to the compromising effect the virus has on their immune system. We are pleased to be able to offer a vaccine against this virus and the Witness FIV test allows us to check your cat is free of FIV infection prior to vaccination.Next: Radiology
