Urine Tests (Urinalysis)
Urine Specific gravity
Lesa using a refractometer to measure urine specific-gravityAnalysis of a urine sample gives us important information about the function of the kidneys and other organs through measuring the urine specific gravity (concentration) in conjunction with blood chemistries.

Urine Dipstick
Abnormal levels of by-products from many organs are passed in the urine. As an example, these could indicate liver disease or diabetes. These are measured on a urine dipstick. The dipstick also tells us the pH of the urine, which can be helpful in managing some common diseases affecting the bladder.

Urine Sediment
Using a centrifuge, we obtain urine sediment to study under the microscope. This gives us information about the health of the kidneys, prostate and bladder that can be used to prescribe treatment including diet modification to dissolve microscopic urinary crystals. If we find bacteria in the urine sediment, we can send a urine sample to the laboratory to culture and identify the bug and tell us which antibiotic is likely to help your pet recover.
