INTENSIVE CARE
Emergencies including animals in distress after a car accident, poisoning, snakebite or stomach torsion are given priority treatment. Our team of committed and highly trained vets and nurses work to stabilise the pet with intravenous fluids, oxygen therapy, warmth, medications for shock and strong pain relief whilst tests are run to establish the extent of the problem and treatment options. These pets are monitored closely in our recovery area including oxygenation and blood pressure measurement where appropriate. In some cases, eg. stomach torsion in deep-chested dogs, surgery is required as soon as the dog can be stabilized. We will phone you when surgery is complete and keep you in touch with your pet’s progress and treatment costs. Pets often benefit from your visiting them in hospital although occasionally their disappointment when you leave makes this option too stressful.

Patients requiring continuous overnight critical care can be transferred to the Animal Emergency Center Canberra.
