Blood Tests
Blood Chemistries
Using IDEXX technology, we can perform a blood chemistry profile selected on your pet’s signs and clinical examination. These tests provide information about vital organs such as the liver, kidney, pancreas, parathyroid and intestinal tract. They also help us diagnose some endocrine diseases and dehydration. We offer pre-anaesthetic testing for liver and kidney disease especially in older or sick animals to better assess the anaesthetic risk and plan appropriately.

Full Blood Count (CBC)
THe IDEXX Lasercyte analyser uses state-of-the-art technology to provide reliable hæmatology results within 10 minutes. It has excellent correlation to commercial lab results. This helps us to accurately detect and qualify anæmias, blood clotting disorders, presence of infection and monitor our patients receiving chemotherapy.

Electrolytes
Certain diseases result in electrolyte imbalances that can compromise a pet’s health and ultimately become life threatening. We enjoy being able to monitor quickly and inexpensively, the electrolyte levels of our hospital patients that are unable to eat for a few days. This allows us to correct the electrolyte balance by altering their intravenous fluid composition.

Blood smear
A tiny drop of blood spread thinly on a glass slide is stained and examined under the microscope to look at the blood cells. This can be particularly helpful in determining the cause and type of anaemia or the severity of an infection. We can also monitor your pet’s progress in overcoming their disease.

Blood Glucose
Taking a series of glucose measurements over a day can help us to fine tune the insulin dosage for diabetic pets.

Other Blood Tests
We send blood to the lab for a wide range of other blood tests including thyroid levels and drug levels in patients on phenobarbitone to control their epilepsy.

If at any time we need the advice of a specialist pathologist, we send blood to an outside laboratory and receive haematology results the following day.
