Amongst the dogs were some celebrity names like Snoopy, Scooby, Lassie and Rex as well as names ranging from Feanor and Frodo to Bundy, Cooper, Guinness and Whiskey! Also Fizgig, Tuxedo, Zipper, El Chubbo, Fatty and Little Fatty.
HorsesOur horse population has changed, and we now are friends with Charlie Parker, Elvis, Peggy and Gypsy Rose, amongst others.
RabbitsFor males, Jeffrey, Lucky and Sammy were the most popular rabbit names, with Bella and Bonnie the most popular female names. Some people have named their rabbits after flavours like Caramellow, Nutmeg, Sugar and Spice, and even Stew! Guinea Pigs
Every cavy who visits Hall Veterinary Surgery seems to have a unique name (except the popular Fudge and Patch). Many appeared to be named after their owners’ favourite ice-cream, viz. Chocolate, Cinnamon, Coco (Fudge has passed on), Hazelnut, Honey, Snicker, Truffles and Vegemite. Well, maybe not Vegemite. And even Lambie and Wrigley Pig sound like they were named after foods. Others seem to be named after flowers or plants, like Rosie, Tulip, Herbie and Patch. Rhino, Shmo, Mini Moe, Pookie, Rag Doll and Mr Poppett show how endearing they are to their owners.
FerretsFerrets also seem to have pretty unique names. Some - like Crunchie, Fang, Killer, Nibbles, Nipper and T. Rex - apparently refer to their toothy reputation, whilst others - Crash, Fizgig, Fozzie, Tickles and Tink - reflect their more playful side. Names like Jasmine, Honey, Baronness, Princess, Sheba and Elle show just how beautiful their owners think they are. Rats
Rats are making more of an appearance on the name lists, with some charming names like Bubbles, Cuddles, Princess Butterfly, Pythagoras, and of course, Rattie. Mice
Mice haven’t made the name lists before, but we were struck by Mini and Poco - both reflecting their diminutive size. Goats
Not many goats get names but several pet ones score the name Socks! One is left to wonder about the washing line. Others are called Beanie, Jelly Baby and Tripper.
At one stage, Sheep scored more on the individual name department, eg Blossom, Daisy, Warlock, Yoda, Smelly and Goat!
