Medication and Prescription Request Information

Clinic Policy:
It is Hall Vet Surgery Policy to follow all Guidelines and Health Regulations with regards to dispensing of medications and written scripts.
For the vet to legally dispense or prescribe a medication, your pet must have been seen by a veterinarian within a 6-month period. No more than 6 months’ worth of medication may be prescribed or scripted at one time. It is at the vet’s discretion to dispense medication, even if they have a long-term issue. It is illegal for us to dispense medication to patients that have not had a consultation for their condition. Some medical conditions may require more frequent check-ups and blood tests to monitor progress and drug levels.
If your pet has not been seen by a vet in the last 6 months you may be asked to schedule a medication review appointment. We reserve the right to refuse a request to dispense medications. We must have an ongoing relationship with you and your pet and believe that we can dispense the medications without the need for a medical review. A review may be requested, and in this case, the request for dispensing may be refused until the review is undertaken.
Animal Prescription Only Medications/Remedies, written scripts or Schedule 4 & 8 Drugs include: Antibiotics, Narcotics, Anaesthetics, Anabolic Steroids, Cortisone or other hormones, Live Virus Vaccines and Anti-inflammatories.

How to Request:
To allow for review of your medication request and or written script, please place your order within 5 business days as delays may occur. It is better to order early and let us know that you will pick it up when you need it, than to leave it late and run out.
To make a request please call the clinic on 6230 2223.
To ensure accurate dispensing and prescribing of medication our reception team will ask for verbal confirmation of:
- Medication name and Strength (e.g. mg, mg/ml)
- How many and how often the medication is given
- Quantity and if you require a physical medication or a paper script (fees apply)
What to expect:
The medication request will be reviewed by our veterinarians, and you will receive an SMS when it is ready to collect.
If there are any issues we will be in contact, usually by phone, to explain what is required to rectify the problem.
Please be patient due to the volume of daily medication requests. These requests will be actioned as promptly as our team can attend to them.
